Selena Gomez’s We Day Speech/ Selena Gomez’s Who Says Speech

smg-news:

Hello Selenators,

As you may have seen in the past few days, we posted a video of Selena Gomez, Orlando Bloom, Jennifer Hudson, Seth Rogen, J. Cole, Hannah Simone, Clive Owen, Edward Norton, Shay Mitchell, Joe Jonas, Martin Sheen, Reggie Watts, Big Sean, and Evanna Lynch are telling the story about a young girl named Malala Yousafzai.

Malala Yousafzai is a 15 year old girl who is from the Swat Valley in Pakistan. She believes that education is a universal human right. She believes that one child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world. When schools were attacked in the Swat district, she still went and spoke out.  She realized the importance of our voices only when we are silent.

On Tuesday, October 9th 2012 she was shot during lunch time. They shot her three times. One bullet hit the left side of her forehead, traveled under her skin the length of her face and then into her shoulder, in an attempt to silence her and end her campaign for girls’ rights to go to school.

In the days immediately following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition, but later her condition improved enough for her to be sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, for intensive rehabilitation.

Her shooting, and her refusal to stand down from what she believed was right, brought to light the plight of millions of children around the world who are denied an education today. The assassination attempt sparked a national and international outpouring of support for Yousafzai.

However, one bullet, one gunshot heard around the world did not stop her to fight for those rights. Malala up to this day continues to fight for the rights of girls’ education.

On April 17, join Craig Kielburger, Malala Yousafzai and Shiza Shahid as they go silent for 24 hours for the millions of girls around the world facing poverty, exploitation and the denial of their right to education.

Take your own vow of silence for an issue you care about and let your silence roar by spreading the word on social media using the hashtag #WeAreSilent.

You should join them too, like we are here at SMG-News

Why should you go silent?

Around the world, there are those whose voices are not heard. They are the girls who are denied an education because of gender inequality, school fees or the need to stay home and care for younger siblings. They are the child labourers or the children growing up in poverty. They are the students who are bullied at your school.

Every one of them has a voice that needs to be heard. Take a silent stand so they can speak out.

I realize everybody wants what they don’t have. But at the end of the day, what you have inside is much more beautiful than what’s on the outside.”
